Oxygenating Aquatic Plants

It should be noted that oxygenating plants do more for controlling algae than for producing enough oxygen for the fish. The best way to create oxygen for your fish is by some type of water movement such as waterfalls, fountains, wind and air pumps with air stones. NOTE: In most cases, goldfish are less destructive to oxygenating plants than Koi.

The Fish Tender's "Famous Sink Filter".

THE FIRST ONE:
The first filter of this type was built in 1989 in my back yard in Austin, Texas. It was later used in my retail store for five years. This filter was originally designed for a 1500 gallon pond. It is currently being used on ponds from 100 gallons to 4000 gallons with very good results. We, at The Fish Tender, rigorously test all our products before we offer them for sale. As you can see it is exposed to the very worst conditions without any protection against cold, ice, heat, and UV light.

With the growing popularity of ponds today comes the increased number of different types of pond products. There are dozens of different types of filters, pumps, dechlorinators, foods, and test kits to choose from. It can be a little confusing at times.

Air Pumps

It should be noted that the air pumps listed below were originally designed to be used indoors only. It is important you remember this. You will need to build or buy a container large enough to cover the pump and prevent water from shorting out the motor. ( Tupperware works great ). Why go through all this? Most outdoor air pumps are very expensive compared to the cost of an indoor pump. They don't last as long. You may pay double or triple the cost of an indoor pump.
